KISUMU

Why Kisumu?

Baraza chose Kisumu after months on the ground. The team listened and learned through local convenings, clinics and focused research with a clear view that media and creative work share some needs yet call for hyperlocal support. The findings described a metropolitan city where teams work across counties and borders and asked for steady rooms, clear workflows, editors and peers within reach and a program that keeps pace with the city. The hub answers that brief with practical space for production, editing and small screenings, a calendar that advances craft and connects people to opportunities, and a live link into Baraza’s network so work can travel between hubs while daily use stays rooted in Kisumu.

What’s on at the Lab?

Poetry nights and open mics lead the week. Gala evenings celebrate new voices and published work. Photographers meet for workshops on storytelling and editing. Creative-economy town halls bring practitioners and partners to the same table. Civic storytelling events draw local issues into focus. Comedy shows close out select nights with sets that speak to life in the lake city. Bring work in progress. Leave with notes, contacts, and a next step.

Host Your Event at Baraza Media Lab - Kisumu

Set your private gathering at Lake Basin Mall, a short drive from the CBD with easy access by car or matatu and ample parking for your guests.
Our team is on site throughout to welcome attendees and handle check in, prepare rooms and sound, keep time, and smooth the little details so your program runs clean; hosts have used the space for live podcast and town hall recordings, guitar training sessions, documentary masterclasses, evening receptions, and full or half day convenings, and if your idea calls for a quiet room, a classroom layout, or a small screening, we shape the setup to fit so you can stay with the people in the room and the work you came to do.

A Space that Supports, Connects, and Grounds the Sanara Mission

From the Kisumu Open Day with Sanara’s skilling and implementation partners welcoming over 800 participants, to hands-on training that ranges from DJing to podcasting and editing, the Kisumu hub holds learning close to real work and real lives. Our commitment runs beyond the metropolitan core as we plan with and in Kondele, Ahero, Mamboleo and Nyalenda so young women and men can take part where they are, and the space keeps safety and inclusion at the centre with a mother’s room for feeding and rest, a quiet room for prayer, and a team that carries the day with care so sessions flow and people feel ready to learn and share.
